Japanese Band-rumped Storm-Petrel Thalobata (castro) kumagai
Summer visitor; mid May-Nov. Endemic. Recent years, breeding population decrease sharply and opportunities to seen at sea are very rare.
Breeding sites are confirmed on Hide-jima (Iwate Pref); about a few to dozen pairs, but breeding population decrease; 25,000 pairs mid-1960s, but less than 36 pairs by 2010. One of the reasons is the decrease in suitable breeding grounds due to the increase of Streaked Shearwater. Perhaps Funakoshi-oshima and Sangan-jima (both Iwate Pref.) may breeds.
