Japan is an island nation surrounded by the sea, serving as a vital habitat and breeding ground for numerous seabird species. From the frigid high latitudes to the tropical low latitudes, diverse seabirds inhabit our oceans. However, many species are now facing the threat of extinction. At Seabirding Japan, we contribute to the conservation of marine ecosystems and provide evidence-based environmental assessments through professional bird surveys both in Japan and internationally.

日本は四方を海に囲まれ、多様な海鳥が生息・繁殖する世界でも有数の環境を有しています。私たちは、極寒の高緯度地域から熱帯の低緯度地域まで、世界中の海をフィールドに活動する海鳥のスペシャリストです。海鳥の調査を通じて、海洋生態系の保全と、科学的根拠に基づいた適正な環境影響評価の実現に貢献します。

Services

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) & Biological Surveys: Specialized bird surveys for offshore wind power, port development, and coastal projects. We also conduct raptor surveys for onshore projects.

Survey Management & Logistics: Planning and execution of long-term and short-term surveys using chartered yachts or boats, as well as ferry-based transect surveys along regular routes.

Birdwatching Guiding: Professional field guiding for domestic and international birdwatchers, photographers, and researchers.

>Current partnerships: We provide guiding services for organized tours through Saiyu Travel Co., Ltd.

>Individual inquiries: We accept direct bookings for field guiding services (excluding accommodation and transportation arrangements).

Data Provision & Research Support: We provide high-precision data and visual assets for academic and media use. Representative examples include:

>Editorial cooperation for the “The Handbook of Seabirds, 2nd edition“.

>Photo contributions to the “Multimedia Identification Guide to North Atlantic Seabirds“.

環境アセスメント・生物調査： 洋上風力発電、港湾開発、海岸整備等に伴う鳥類調査を実施します。洋上（船舶）および陸域（繁殖地・沿岸）の両面から、精度の高い調査を行います。また、陸上での鳥類調査にも対応できます。

船舶調査の計画・運営： チャーターヨットやボートを用いた短期・長期の洋上調査、および定期フェリーを利用した船舶センサスの計画策定から実施まで、一貫したマネジメントを行います。

バードウォッチング・ガイド： 国内外のバードウォッチャー、写真家、研究者を対象とした専門的なガイドを行います。

　＞ツアーガイド： 現在、主に株式会社西遊旅行を通じて専門ツアーのガイドを承っております。

　＞個人依頼： 宿泊・交通手配を含まない「現地ガイド業務」については、直接のご依頼も可能です。

データ提供・研究支援： 学術誌への論文投稿や、図鑑・メディアへの正確な調査データ・写真・動画の提供を行っています。（実績例：『新海鳥ハンドブック』監修協力、『Multimedia Identification Guide to North Atlantic Seabirds』への写真提供など）

Identification Skills: Advanced identification skills for all seabird species recorded in Japan, with extensive knowledge of global seabird species gained through field experience across the world’s major oceans.

Global Experience: Extensive survey experience across the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, and Southern Oceans.

Expedition History (Chartered Yachts/Boats):

>Ogasawara Islands: Annual surveys (1-2 weeks/season) since 2020.

>Central Pacific: Marquesas (18 days/2021), Rapa (16 days/2021), Hawaii to Fiji (29 days/2022), Hawaii (6days/2023), Fiji (12days/2022, 8days/2024).

>Indian Ocean: North-western region (25 days/2025).

>Other regions: Mexico (19 days/2022).

Equipment: Nikon Z9, AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR, Sony FDR-AX60, and image-stabilized binoculars.

高い識別技術： 日本で記録のある海鳥の正確な識別に加え、世界各地の海洋での調査経験に基づくグローバルな知見を有しています。

豊富な調査実績： 太平洋、大西洋、インド洋、南極海での調査経験を有しています。特に中央太平洋やインド洋等における、30日規模の長期チャーター船調査の実績が多数あります。

調査機材： 防振双眼鏡（CanonやFujinon等）、高画質カメラや超望遠レンズ（Nikon）、4Kビデオカメラ（Sony）等を用い、厳しい洋上環境下でも確実な同定と記録を行います。

Both members have extensive professional backgrounds in environmental consulting and share a deep commitment to scientific bird surveys, international expeditions, and academic publication.

環境調査会社での実務経験、海外遠征、論文執筆という共通のバックグラウンドを持ち、それぞれの専門性を活かして活動しています。
