Matsudaira’s Storm-Petrel Hydrobates matsudairae

Common around Bonin Is and Volcano Is. Endemic. Breeds Jan-Aug. A few birds seen around N Izu Is. Also regularly seen off Choshi, Chiba Pref in Jun-Jul, so probably go north in early summer. Most northern record off Iwate Pref, 30 Jun 2018.

Breeding sites are confirmed on Volcano Is; Minima-Iwo-jima and Kita-Iwo-jima. However, breeding has not been confirmed on Kita-Iwo-jima after the war.
